P600-M theme park to open in Silay City

A P600-MILLION theme park will soon rise in Silay City, Negros Occidental. The groundbreaking rites for Magic Island is set on Sunday, April 2. It is located on a 3.75-hectare lot in Barangay Guinhalaran, just 12 kilometers away from Bacolod City. Reynaldo Bantug, president of developer Aton Land and Leisure Inc., said the goal of the project is to contribute to the socio-economic growth of Negros through developing the tourism industry, a press release from the company said. Bantug said the theme park will include facilities for rides and entertainment; educational and cultural exhibitions and programs; food and beverage; merchandise; and lifestyle hubs. Magic Island will also showcase the rich Negrense folklore, culture and art in its entertainment and educational facilities, and architecture. The theme park will initially offer 15 attractions. These are the tallest Ferris wheel in the Visayas, roller coasters, carousels, kiddie and family rides, thrill rides and go-karts, a haunted house, and arcade games. One of the suppliers is Italian company Zamperia, which is also Disneyland’s biggest supplier. The park is designed to accommodate 3,000 visitors daily. Aton Land chairman Simplicio Palanca, who is responsible for the 250-hectare port reclamation project in Bacolod City, had brought circuses and carnivals to Bacolod City in the 1960’s and has long dreamed of building an entertainment center for the province. His grandnephew, Third District Representative Alfredo Benitez, is the prime mover of the project. The lawmaker had pushed for the project as early as 2011, during his first term. Multi-awarded Negrense director, writer, actor Peque Gallaga has been tapped as artistic and creative consultant for Magic Island. The master planner for the theme park is the DQA Inc., a leading design and planning firm responsible for building top amusements parks in the country. Meanwhile, Aton Land will embark on an initial 28-hectare estate development, an upscale lifestyle center with an ambiance of fun and leisure. First to be started this 2017 is the work on Magic Island while the remaining 24.25 hectares will be developed into a planned residential and commercial area to serve the retail and dining needs of the park visitors. It is envisioned to become a go-to lifestyle center in the province. (PR)
